Expansion is driven by the networks being able to create more money and
the Presidents finding partner schools that fit their mission and the geographical footprint for the most part.
The Big 12 (minus Texas) like the ACC wants their own channel for exposure and money. The networks will put it together when they can see the money coming in from it. I can see the ACC with it's incredible reach and terrific non-football sports making the numbers without Texas numbers wise. Even with ND not being able to win the conference championhip in football...but remeber they are there for the other sports that are mainly going to be on the channel. However, can you see the Big 12 making the numbers work in their markets without Texas? I just don't see the numbers.
PS BYU gives them 0 for a channel without the other sports. Very good football school, but there is a reason most of their staff picked up their lives from their alma mater and moved across the country to UVa.
